Nicolas Desprat is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Paris and a member of the Physics of Microbes team (ABCD Team) within the Physics Laboratory of the École Normale Supérieure (LPENS). His research focuses on understanding how physical constraints influence microbial communities, including bacterial colony formation, host-pathogen interactions, and collective behavior in organisms like Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. He holds a PhD in condensed matter physics and has conducted postdoctoral research at the Curie Institute, focusing on cellular mechanics and embryonic development. Research interests include: Bacterial communities and microcolony morphogenesis Host-pathogen interactions involving Listeria monocytogenes Collective phenomena in algae and yeast Evolution in spatially structured environments Key projects involve collaborations on mechanisms of bacterial adhesion, iron metabolism in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the role of temperature gradients in E. coli evolution. His work combines experimental and theoretical approaches, including force microscopy and automated bioreactor systems for studying microbial adaptation. Publications span topics like microbial cooperation, intracellular replication of pathogens, and biophysical instrumentation. He teaches physics at the University of Paris and leads interdisciplinary research bridging microbiology, biophysics, and evolutionary biology.
