Associate Professor
Paula Poretti is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Family Law, Faculty of Law, J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, where she also serves as Vice-Dean for Teaching and Students. She teaches across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral law programs and has held visiting lectureships at the University of Pécs (Hungary) and the University of Perugia (Italy). Her institutional affiliations include the Jean Monnet Chairs on EU Procedural Law and Cross-Border Movement of Children in the EU. Her educational background includes a law degree from the Faculty of Law Osijek and a PhD from the University of Zagreb with a thesis on 'Collective Legal Protection in Civil Proceedings'. Paula Poretti's research centers on private international law, EU civil procedural law, consumer rights, collective redress, and cross-border family disputes. She actively explores the implementation of EU regulations in Croatian law and the protection of vulnerable parties such as over-indebted consumers and children in international abductions. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical legal reform. The 15 most recent publications reflect a strong focus on civil procedure, EU law, consumer protection, and cross-border legal coordination. Key themes include the abolition of exequatur, enforcement of human rights judgments, collective redress mechanisms, and the application of EU regulations in family and succession matters. The articles span top regional journals and edited volumes published in Croatia, Germany, and the UK. Award for Scientific Excellence, Faculty of Law Osijek, academic year 2017/2018 Dr. Poretti has led national and international research projects, including the internally funded 'Social Significance of Consumer Rights Protection' and participation in the EU-funded 'EUFam' and 'EUFam's II' projects. She has served as a national reporter for multiple European Commission studies on consumer law and was appointed to key legislative working groups at the Ministry of Justice and Administration and the Ministry of Economy. She also advises on policy as a member of the National Council for Consumer Protection. She is actively involved in academic and policy communities through participation in numerous international and domestic conferences, collaboration with the Croatian Chamber of Notaries, and contributions to legislative drafting. Her work demonstrates a strong commitment to translating academic research into legal and societal impact.
