Dr. Hazel Farrell is a Lecturer in the Department of Arts at SETU, serving as Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Music course and Chair of the Council for Heads of Music in Higher Education. With over 30 years of experience in education and academia, her research focuses on technology-enhanced learning, student engagement, and the integration of Generative AI in higher education. She leads the national project Generative AI: N-TUTORR National Network (GenAI:N 3 ) and organises the Sustainability in the Arts Festival funded by SATLE and N-TUTORR. Farrell holds a PhD from Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick (2002), focusing on pitch structures in Irish composition. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and sustainability. She has received the Teaching Excellence Award (2019) and actively participates in academic activities, including invited talks at conferences like the Society for Music Education in Ireland and workshops on AI in education. Her research outputs emphasize innovative teaching methods, e-portfolio applications, and the ethical use of AI. She oversees two supervised works and collaborates on projects addressing AI's role in fostering student engagement.
