Researcher
Elizabeta Briski is a Senior Research Group Leader at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, focusing on Invasion Ecology and Global Change Biology. She leads the Invasion Ecology Group, studying species invasions, climate impacts, and urban environment adaptation. Her affiliations include the Marine Ecology division under the Experimental Ecology department. Briski holds a Ph.D. from the University of Windsor (2011) and habilitation from Christian-Albrechts University (2017). She has authored over 80 publications and secured grants like the Alexander von Humboldt Sofja Kovalevskaja Award (€1.6M). Her research explores invasion mechanisms, including geographic origins, climate change effects, and anthropogenic stressors. Key projects include assessing non-native species in Schleswig-Holstein and Adriatic oyster restoration. Briski teaches graduate courses at Christian-Albrechts University, covering topics like Biological Oceanography and Invasion Ecology. She serves as an associate editor for *Diversity & Distributions* and *Marine Biology*, and reviews for top journals like *Ecology Letters*. Briski’s work highlights the economic costs of invasions, with recent studies linking invasion success to native regions and urban adaptation. Her lab focuses on bridging invasion biology with conservation, emphasizing integrated approaches to ecosystem resilience.
