Professor Rosemary Lyster is a leading academic in Climate and Environmental Law at the University of Sydney Law School, where she holds the Chair in Climate and Environmental Law. She co-leads the Climate Disaster and Adaptation Cluster at the Sydney Environment Institute and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. Her research focuses on Climate Justice Disaster Law Energy Law Water Law with a particular emphasis on legal frameworks for climate adaptation and equity in global climate policy. Her education includes a BA, LLB, and LLM from the University of Natal. She has advised governments, including leading a Victorian Climate Change Act review that influenced the 2017 reforms. Her work bridges legal scholarship with policy impact, such as her role as a visiting professor at Cambridge Law School and contributions to the IPCC assessments. Research outputs span over 100 publications, including seminal works like Climate Justice and Disaster Law (2015) and Research Handbook on Climate Disaster Law (2018). Recent work addresses climate resilience in energy infrastructure and neoliberalism's impact on disaster governance. She has received the 2018 Australian Financial Review '100 Women of Influence' award. Grants include ARC-funded projects on climate law and electricity grid resilience.
