Professor Paul Lewis is a Professor of Political Economy in the Department of Management at the Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. He serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Responsible Business, a position he has held since 2023. His academic work bridges political economy, institutional analysis, and contemporary capitalism, with a strong focus on inequality, labour markets, and financial crises. His recent publications explore themes such as productivity, anti-austerity movements, welfare capitalism, and regional development. His scholarly output shows a consistent engagement with pressing socio-economic issues, particularly the structural causes and consequences of inequality and institutional change in advanced capitalist economies. His work spans journals in political economy, industrial relations, and social policy, reflecting an interdisciplinary approach. He has contributed to major policy discussions, including through his role as an Invited Expert Contributor to the UNIDO International Development Report 2018. Invited Expert Contributor to the United Nations International Development Organisation (UNIDO) International Development Report 2018 External Examiner for the MSc International Management at King’s College, London (2014–2018) Paul Lewis has advised on policy and served as a referee for leading journals such as the British Journal of Politics and International Relations , Cambridge Journal of Economics , and Review of International Political Economy . He teaches modules including ‘Contemporary Capitalism’, ‘Models of Capitalism and Financial Crises’, and ‘Consulting Skills’ with Deloitte. He is actively involved in research leadership through the Centre for Responsible Business and collaborates widely across the social sciences.
