Tao Xu is a Part-Time Professor in the Modern Languages & Literatures Department and East Asian Studies Program at the Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on Zhuangzi studies, language proficiency evaluation, and Chinese intellectual history. She holds a Master of Arts in Chinese literature (1986) and B.A. in Chinese language & literature (1982) from Renmin University of China. Research interests span Pre-Qin prose, Tang/Song poetry, Ming-Qing fiction, Chinese folk beliefs, and cultural history. Recent work emphasizes Zhuangzi's philosophical and literary dimensions. Publications include seminal works on classical texts like Selected Pre-Qin Readers and Chuang Tze’s Thoughts and Literature . Teaching focuses on East Asian literary traditions with courses like CHN 1901/1902. Her scholarly contributions bridge classical Chinese literature with contemporary language education methodologies.
