Associate Professor
Assoc. Prof. Fatih ÖZTÜRK is a faculty member at Istanbul University, Faculty of Law, Department of Public Law, specializing in Constitutional Law. He also serves as a visiting and guest lecturer at international institutions including Queen’s University, York University, and Oxford University. His academic expertise spans constitutional theory, comparative constitutional law, judicial activism, federalism, human rights, and the intersection of law and religion. Education: PhD in Public Law, Istanbul University (2011) PhD Studies, University College Cork, Ireland (2005–2009) LLM in Constitutional Law, Queen’s University, Canada (2005) Master of Comparative Law, California Western School of Law, USA (2004) LLB, Istanbul University Faculty of Law (1997) His research interests include constitutional reform in Turkey, minority rights, religious freedom, judicial independence, and comparative federalism. He has authored and edited several influential books, such as Towards a New Constitution for Türkiye (2023), Anayasal Cumhuriyet (2022), and ABD ve Kanada Federalizmi (2021). His scholarly work frequently explores the Ottoman millet system, EU integration, and the evolution of constitutionalism in unstable democracies. His recent publications reflect a strong trend in comparative constitutional analysis, with a focus on judicial behavior, constitutional design, and minority rights. Many of his articles examine the tension between legal formalism and political realities, particularly in transitional and post-authoritarian contexts. He is not retired, not deceased, and currently active in both research and teaching.
