Richard Golden is Professor of Cognitive Science in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas, with a cross-appointment in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He directs the Cognitive Informatics and Statistics (COINS) Laboratory and serves as Program Head for both the undergraduate Cognitive Science BS and graduate Applied Cognition and Neuroscience MS programs. Education: Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology (Computational Cognitive Science) - Brown University (1987) M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Statistical Pattern Recognition) - Brown University (1986) B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Psychology - University of California, San Diego (1982) Postdoctoral training at Stanford University and University of Pittsburgh Research Focus: Golden's work integrates psychometrics, learning science, and statistical machine learning to develop quantitative models of skill acquisition. His research spans: (1) Computational psychometrics for educational assessment, (2) Theoretical foundations of machine learning algorithms, and (3) Cognitive modeling of text comprehension and recall using Markov field approaches.
