Associate Professor
Martijn J. Booij is an Associate Professor in Hydrology at the University of Twente, Netherlands. He holds an MSc in Hydrology and Quantitative Water Management from Wageningen University and a PhD in Hydrology and Climatology from the University of Twente. His research focuses on catchment hydrology, hydrological modelling, environmental change impacts on water resources, and uncertainty analysis. He has contributed to over 125 scientific publications and collaborated globally, including in Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Pakistan, Iran, Rwanda, Kenya, Germany, France, and Belgium. Education: MSc in Hydrology & Quantitative Water Management, Wageningen University PhD in Hydrology & Climatology, University of Twente Research interests span hydrological systems modelling, climate change impacts, and water resource management. His work addresses challenges like rainfall-runoff model calibration, virtual water optimization, and hydraulic river model accuracy across discharge ranges. Scientific contributions include an Outstanding paper award (2013) for work on flood risk management. He actively supervises PhD/MSc/BSc students and teaches hydrology, hydrological modelling, and water management. His international activities include guest lectures in China, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Poland, alongside contributions to training programs in Indonesia and China. Advising focuses on student supervision across multiple levels. His research outputs include datasets on global crop water use and hydraulic model validations. Ongoing projects explore river flow dynamics, climate adaptation strategies, and sustainable water management solutions.
