Ken Brady, MD is a Professor in the Children's Heart Institute at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he serves as Director for Post-Operative Services and Executive Director for Translational Research in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Medicine. As both a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist, Dr. Brady specializes in caring for critically ill children with heart disease in operating rooms and intensive care units. His educational background includes a BA in Neurophysiology from the University of California Berkeley, an MD from the University of California San Francisco, residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at UC San Diego and Anesthesia at Johns Hopkins University, followed by fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia and Pediatric Critical Care at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Brady's research focuses on using engineering tools to analyze large volumes of physiologic waveforms to forecast deterioration and optimize care for critically ill children. His work centers on cerebrovascular reactivity monitoring to determine optimal blood pressure ranges for brain perfusion. Notably, his development of a cerebrovascular reactivity monitor reduced postoperative delirium odds by 45% in adult patients and is currently undergoing trials in neonates. His research spans neonatal neurodevelopment, cerebral autoregulation monitoring, and protection of vulnerable organs in critically ill children.
