Associate Professor
Martha Saunders serves as Associate Professor of Studio Art and Chair of the Hunt Gallery at Mary Baldwin University, holding an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is dedicated to fostering collaborative and exploratory studio environments for developing artists through her pedagogical approach. Her educational background includes: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Virginia Commonwealth University Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Maryland Institute College of Art Saunders' research centers on painting and printmaking with critical engagement in art historical narratives, particularly examining representation of marginalized voices. Her involvement with the Women's Caucus for Art has fundamentally shaped her interrogation of exclusionary practices in art canon formation, driving both her studio practice and academic perspective.
