Associate Professor
Associate Professor Dessalegn Mihret is the Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting at RMIT University's School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain. He holds academic positions at RMIT (2019–present), Deakin University (2013–2019), and the University of New England (2009–2013), with prior experience as a Lead Accountant at Ethiopian Airlines (1996–1999). His research focuses on auditing, accounting professionalization, regulation, and corporate reporting, with notable contributions to journals like Accounting, Organizations and Society and Journal of Business Ethics . He has supervised four PhD candidates at RMIT and co-supervised three others at other institutions. His work explores global audit firm competition, sustainability governance, and board diversity impacts. As an editorial board member for journals such as Business Strategy and the Environment , he emphasizes institutional dynamics and ethical auditing practices. Key awards include the ACCA Fellowship (2003). His teaching spans auditing, assurance, and forensic accounting. Current research addresses climate action (UN SDG 13) and institutional logics in accounting systems.
