Assistant Professor
Travis Mountain is an Assistant Professor of Extension in Financial Planning at the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, University of Georgia. He specializes in improving financial literacy through research and outreach programs. Ph.D. in Family Resource Management, The Ohio State University (2015) M.S. in Consumer Behavior and Family Economics, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008) B.S. in Consumer Science, Personal Finance, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2004) His research focuses on financial overconfidence, debt behavior analysis (including housing decisions and student loans), retirement planning, and financial decision-making for low-net-worth households. He also contributes to the NC 2172 multistate research team studying household financial and health decisions under economic uncertainty. Recent publications examine cross-cultural financial behavior, annuity decision-making, life insurance trends, and financial education efficacy. Travis oversees the UGA VITA program, which filed over 2,000 tax returns in 2024, and has secured grant funding from the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). He teaches graduate courses FHCE 8200 Financial Planning and Analysis and FHCE 8025 Research Evaluation and Theory .
