Asgeir Tomasgard is a Professor of Operations Analysis at NTNU's Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management. He serves as Director of NTNU Energy and NTNU Energy Transition Initiative, leading strategic initiatives in energy systems research. His work focuses on techno-economic modeling of energy transitions, particularly zero-emission systems and decarbonization of transport/industry. He holds board positions at Gassco AS, the Climate Foundation, and Energi21, among others, actively influencing energy policy and industry. Research expertise includes large-scale optimization models addressing dynamics and uncertainty in energy systems. Key areas are hydrogen technologies, renewable integration, and policy frameworks for climate mitigation. He co-leads projects like FlexBuild examining end-use flexibility and participates in international energy initiatives such as EERA E3S and the European Academies' Science Advice Council. Publications span energy system planning, stochastic optimization, and policy analysis, with recent work emphasizing multi-horizon modeling and hydrogen economics. Active in knowledge dissemination through media commentaries and policy reports, advocating for Norway's role in the green transition. His research bridges academic rigor with real-world energy challenges, emphasizing system-level solutions for sustainable development.
