Dr Xiaoyan Zhou is a Lecturer at Sydney Dental School, University of Sydney. She holds membership in the Charles Perkins Centre and is affiliated with the International Association of Dental Research and the Australian Society of Endodontology. Her research focuses on establishing an oral health biobank to collect oral biospecimens and clinical data, linking oral health to systemic diseases like cardiovascular conditions and diabetes. Zhou teaches across the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program, covering pre-clinical and clinical disciplines including Endodontics and Cariology. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Sun Yat-sen University and a Master’s in Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics), where she earned the “Excellent Postgraduate Student of Guangdong Province” award. Her PhD research at the University of Sydney investigated the secretion pathway of gingipains in Porphyromonas gingivalis. Zhou has received awards such as the IADR/Unilever Hatton Award and the Oral B Prize for her contributions to dental research. Zhou’s current projects include developing an oral health biobank and analyzing pediatric dental treatment patterns. Her research themes emphasize Chronic Diseases and Ageing Well. She has published extensively in journals like BMC Oral Health, Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice, and Nature Communications. Awards include recognition for her PhD presentation, travel grants, and contributions to endodontic research. Her work bridges clinical practice, microbiology, and public health, with a focus on advancing oral health through biobanking and interdisciplinary collaborations.
