Daniel Christoph Volke is a CO-PI and Senior Researcher at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark, where he leads research in Systems Environmental Microbiology. His work focuses on applying synthetic biology approaches to engineer microbial systems for sustainable bioproduction and environmental applications. Dr. Volke's research expertise spans several key areas: Microbial engineering of Pseudomonas putida and other bacterial chassis CRISPR-based genome editing and metabolic engineering Development of high-throughput screening methods for enzyme discovery Engineering microbial systems for biocatalysis and chemical production His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on advancing synthetic biology tools and applications, particularly in developing microbial platforms for sustainable chemical production and environmental remediation. His work integrates systems biology approaches with genetic engineering to create novel microbial catalysts that contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Volke actively supervises multiple PhD students working on cutting-edge projects in microbial engineering and synthetic biology, with research spanning biodegradation capabilities, genome reduction, and metabolic pathway engineering.
