Research Fellow
Sophie Ward is a Research Fellow at the School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University . She specializes in physical oceanography with particular expertise in numerical modeling (physical and biophysical), sediment dynamics , and marine renewable energy . Education: PhD - A new proxy for constraining palaeotidal simulations (Bangor University, 2010–2015) Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE, Bangor University, 2013) MSc - Applied Physical Oceanography (Bangor University, 2009–2010) BSc - Natural Sciences (University of Bath, 2004–2007) Her research focuses on ocean modeling applications related to climate change , sea-level rise , and marine energy resource assessment . Current projects include the Convex Seascape Survey (2022–2027) and NRN-LCEE Returning Fellowship (2018–2019). Key scientific contributions include: Sea-level and climate modeling through the PALTIDE interactive tool Blue carbon stock analysis in continental shelf mud depocenters Dispersal modeling for marine species and plastic debris Tidal energy resource characterization Coastal ecosystem restoration frameworks She has received multiple research grants including awards from the British Council , Nature Networks Fund , and Bangor University . Her work has been featured in 8 media contributions covering topics from Wales coastal flooding to ocean carbon storage.
