Dr. Misti Gossett-Thrower is an Assistant Professor of Counseling in the School of Counseling at the College of Adult and Graduate Studies, Adams State University. With over two decades of experience as a licensed school counselor, she brings deep practical expertise in supporting first-generation and low-income students across K–12 and higher education settings. Education: Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, Adams State University M.A. in School Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy, University of Colorado Denver B.A. in Psychology, Metropolitan State University of Denver Licensed School Counselor, Colorado Dr. Gossett-Thrower's research and professional focus lies in positive psychology, resilience, and growth mindset , particularly in underserved populations. She is passionate about college and career readiness, advocacy, and leadership development for counselors. Fluent in Spanish, she actively engages with first-generation students and families through bilingual pre-collegiate programs. Her work also integrates faith and learning, helping future counselors connect psychological practice with spiritual identity and scriptural teachings. She has presented extensively on counseling strategies for English language learners, students with intellectual disabilities, and survivors of domestic violence. Her teaching and mentorship emphasize creating safe, inclusive environments where youth can explore and affirm their religious and spiritual identities within educational contexts. Dr. Gossett-Thrower is committed to training the next generation of counselors to become leaders and advocates in equitable education.
