Edward Wile Maibach is a distinguished University Professor and Director of George Mason University’s Center for Climate Change Communication (Mason 4C). He leads influential initiatives like the Yale/George Mason Climate Change in the American Mind polling project, the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, and Climate Matters. A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and member of both the National Academy of Medicine and the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, he has received top honors including Mason’s Beck Family Presidential Medal (2020) and the Stephen H. Schneider Award (2020). Dr. Maibach holds a PhD in Communication Science from Stanford University (1990), an MPH from San Diego State University (1983), and a BA in Psychology from UC San Diego (1980). His career spans academia, public health, and industry, including roles as Associate Director of the National Cancer Institute and Worldwide Director of Social Marketing at Porter Novelli. He currently chairs the Global Climate and Health Alliance’s Board of Directors. His research focuses on climate communication strategies, health advocacy, and public engagement. Notable contributions include analyzing climate policy support, evaluating communication effectiveness, and developing tools for healthcare professionals to address climate impacts. Recent work emphasizes reducing fossil fuel dependence and leveraging health sector leadership in climate action.
