Rodney Vaughan is a Professor in the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), holding the Sierra Wireless Professorship in Mobile Communication. He leads research in signal processing, antenna design, and wave propagation. His academic background includes degrees from the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) and Aalborg University (Denmark). Vaughan’s affiliations include Fellow of the IEEE and URSI Correspondent. Research focuses on antenna theory, MIMO systems, and wireless communication innovations. He oversees advanced lab facilities like the Satimo SG128 antenna pattern chamber and Agilent network analyzers. Recent publications address antenna efficiency, diversity techniques, and array design. Vaughan advises multiple PhD and Master’s students and has graduated 17 researchers. Awards include the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer title and Sierra Wireless Endowed Professorship. His grants span CFI, NSERC, and industry partnerships. His lab develops compact antennas, MIMO capacity optimization, and high-efficiency communication systems. Teaching includes ENSC courses on electric circuits and advanced signal processing. Vaughan’s work bridges theoretical signal processing with practical antenna engineering, emphasizing real-world applications in mobile and IoT systems.
