Svetlana Ondrasova Skurtveit is a Professor at the Norwegian Centre for Addiction Research (SERAF), Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. She leads multiple national and international research projects focusing on opioid use, prescription drug misuse, and registry-based public health studies. Her work is supported by collaborations with institutions in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, including Charles University, Karolinska Institute, and Norwegian Institute of Public Health. She employs advanced epidemiological methods and large-scale national health registries to investigate predictors and consequences of persistent opioid use and related comorbidities. The recent publications highlight a strong focus on opioid epidemiology, pain management, and public health outcomes. Trends include registry-based cohort studies across Nordic countries, analysis of long-term opioid use, mortality risks, mental health comorbidities, and policy implications. Her work frequently involves multinational collaborations and leverages data from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, contributing significantly to understanding and preventing opioid-related harm. She has served on PhD adjudication committees as first and second opponent and chaired evaluation committees. Her research is funded by the Mid-Norway Regional Health Authority and other national bodies. She is actively involved in academic leadership, representing Norway in the Nordic PharmacoEpidemiological Network (NorPEN) and serving on scientific boards for major health surveys including SAMINOR and UNGHUBRO. She is a key member of research groups focusing on opioids, opioid maintenance treatment (OMT), overdose prevention, and registry-based drug and addiction research. Her projects include AgeSUD, HAB, PriSUD, and POINT, all aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders through evidence-based interventions and policy recommendations.
