Armelle Masse is a Senior Heritage Conservation Officer and Head of the Soil Archives Department at the Pas-de-Calais Department in France. She holds a Doctorate in Protohistoric Archaeology and is a permanent member of HALMA UMR-8164, a research unit affiliated with University of Lille, CNRS, and the Ministry of Culture. Masse works at the House of Archaeology of Pas-de-Calais in Dainville and has held lecturing positions at University of Lille, Charles-de-Gaulle University, University of Valenciennes and Hainaut-Cambrésis, and Polytechnic University of Hauts-de-France. Dr. Masse completed her doctoral studies at ÉPHÉ de Paris and Université E. Loránd de Budapest with research on Eastern elements in La Tène Celtic art. She also holds advanced degrees in Art History and Archaeology from École Pratique des Hautes Études de Paris and Université de Paris I. Her professional training includes extensive coursework in management, preventive conservation, administration, and safety protocols relevant to archaeological practice. Her research focuses on Protohistoric Archaeology, particularly Bronze and Iron Age settlements in Northern France. Masse has directed major research projects including 'Regards croisés sur le sel' (Cross-disciplinary Perspectives on Salt), examining salt production and usage from multiple disciplinary perspectives across historical periods. Her work spans archaeological excavation, material analysis, settlement patterns, funerary practices, and salt production techniques in Northern Gaul, with particular emphasis on the Pas-de-Calais region. Masse's scholarly output demonstrates consistent focus on the archaeology of Northern France, with publications analyzing Bronze Age monuments, Iron Age occupation patterns, and salt production methods. Her research shows interdisciplinary approaches combining archaeological evidence with historical and anthropological perspectives to understand ancient societies.
