Assistant Professor
Irene Kamara is an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University (since September 2021) and a former PhD researcher there (2016–2021). Her work focuses on intersections of law, technology, and digital governance, with particular emphasis on data protection standards, cybersecurity regulations, and EU legal frameworks. She holds an LL.M. and a PhD in law. Her research interests include technical standards in data protection, algorithmic accountability, and regulatory responses to emerging technologies like AI and online gaming platforms. She addresses topics such as automated decision-making systems, certification mechanisms, and privacy-by-design principles. Irene has presented at international conferences and workshops, including talks on AI conformity assessment under the EU's proposed AI Act and data protection standardization challenges. Her work bridges legal theory with technical implementation, emphasizing transparency and judicial accountability in digital governance. Awards : Finalist in Cyber Woman Excellence Awards 2021 (Researcher Category), Standards+Innovation Award (2021), and Young Author Recognition (2015). Grants/Activities : Participated in workshops on ISO/IEC 27701 certification and contributed to projects like 'Responsible AI & Society.'
