Evgeniy Olegovich Stepanov is a Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and a Leading Researcher at the Faculty of Computer Science of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE). He also serves as a Visiting Lecturer at HSE University in St. Petersburg within the School of Informatics, Physics, and Technology. His primary research appointment is with the Laboratory of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence Models at HSE's Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sciences. Dr. Stepanov earned his Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree in 2007 from ANO DPO "Innovative Educational Center for Advanced Training and Retraining \"My University\"". He received his Associate Professor academic title in 2005. His undergraduate education was completed in 1994 at the St. Petersburg Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics, where he specialized in "Optical Instruments and Systems" with qualifications as both an "Optical Physicist Engineer" and "Optical Engineer. Physicist". Dr. Stepanov's research focuses on geometric measure theory, metric geometry, calculus of variations and optimal control, and dynamic systems . His work bridges pure mathematics with applications in artificial intelligence, particularly in geometric approaches to data analysis and optimization problems. His publication record shows a consistent trajectory from foundational mathematical work to increasingly interdisciplinary applications, with recent publications demonstrating strong connections between theoretical mathematical frameworks and practical computational methods in manifold learning and optimal transport theory. Dr. Stepanov has received multiple bonuses for publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals during the periods 2019-2020, 2020-2022, and 2021-2022. These awards reflect the high impact and quality of his research contributions to the mathematical community. With 29 years of scientific and teaching experience, Dr. Stepanov has been actively involved in mentoring students at HSE since joining the university in 2017. He teaches a variety of advanced mathematics courses including Differential Equations, Mathematical Physics, and Approximate Methods of Analytical Calculations across multiple programs in physics and mathematics. His teaching spans both the Moscow and St. Petersburg campuses of HSE, demonstrating his commitment to mathematical education across the university's network. Dr. Stepanov is a key member of the Laboratory of Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence Models at HSE, where his mathematical expertise contributes to the development of rigorous theoretical frameworks for AI. His interdisciplinary collaborations span mathematics, computer science, and computational biology, as evidenced by his publications on topics ranging from geometric integration to protein structure analysis, reflecting the increasingly cross-disciplinary nature of modern mathematical research.
