Zoe Rimmer is an Adjunct Senior Researcher at the University of Tasmania's School of Humanities, History and Classics within the College of Arts, Law and Education. She holds leadership roles in the PVC Aboriginal Leadership Office and contributes to multiple national and regional cultural heritage committees. A Pakana (Tasmanian Aboriginal) community member, Rimmer completed her PhD on Tasmanian Aboriginal activism in cultural institutions, focusing on repatriation and Pakana museology.
Her research expertise spans museology, decolonizing cultural collections, and Indigenous-led curatorial practices. Key achievements include the award-winning 'kanalaritja: An Unbroken String' exhibition and leadership in repatriation advocacy. Rimmer also serves on the Tasmanian Aboriginal Heritage Council and National Gallery of Australia’s First Nations Advisory Group.
Recent projects include an ARC-funded study on Indigenous objects in 19th/20th century exhibitions and a fire management literature review for the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. She teaches 'Indigenous Lifeworlds' and 'History and Cultural Heritage,' integrating Palawa perspectives into academic curricula.
Rimmer’s awards include the John Mulvaney Fellowship (2021) and Winston Churchill Fellowship (2013). Her work emphasizes truth-telling, cultural revitalization, and institutional transformation to center Indigenous voices.
