Zhenyi Li is a Professor and Director of the MA in Intercultural and International Communication program at Royal Roads University, Canada’s first such program. He specializes in intercultural communication, health communication, and cultural branding. Li holds a PhD in Intercultural Communication from the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), with earlier degrees from East China Normal University. His research explores connections between communication and health behaviors, cross-cultural adaptation, and multiculturalism advocacy.
Li has taught at institutions including UBC, University of Jyväskylä, and Lille Catholic University. He is a long-time executive member of SIETAR (B.C. and Europe) and has conducted extensive training/consulting since 1995. Awards include Royal Roads’ 2011 Kelly Outstanding Teaching Award and the Canadian Bureau for International Education’s Innovation in International Education Award.
His scholarly work bridges cultural studies and public health, focusing on topics like stroke awareness in China, cross-cultural healthcare practices, and pandemic communication strategies. Over 20 years of academic leadership has driven interdisciplinary research and program innovation in intercultural education.
