Dr. Zhen Sun is an Associate Professor (Research) in Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, an LLM with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh, an LLM from China University of Political Science and Law, and an LLB from Hainan University.
Her research focuses on international maritime law, shipping regulation, gender equality in ocean governance, climate change impacts, and marine environmental protection. Dr. Sun co-leads high-impact initiatives including the Land-to-Ocean Leadership Programme and the Empowering Women for the UN Decade of Ocean Science programme. She teaches in the MSc Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management specialization and supervises PhD candidates.
Previously, Dr. Sun was a Research Fellow at the Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore, where she managed projects funded by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Maritime and Port Authority. She has published extensively on law of the sea topics and contributes to editorial projects in maritime law.
