About
Zhaowei Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He is affiliated with the Center for Memory and Recording Research and leads a research group focused on advanced optical technologies. His work emphasizes nanophotonics, metamaterials, and super-resolution imaging techniques.
Research interests include super-resolution imaging, biophotonics, plasmonics, nano-manufacturing, and nonlinear optical phenomena. Key projects involve developing metamaterial-assisted illumination nanoscopy (MAIN), deep learning-enhanced microscopy, and edge-detection metasurfaces. His lab explores applications in biomedical imaging, ultrafast optoelectronics, and quantum material engineering.
Publications span topics like plasmonic dark-field microscopy, hyperbolic metamaterials, and nonlinear optical systems. His work bridges foundational optics research with practical applications in imaging and nanotechnology.
He holds a faculty position at the Jacobs School of Engineering and maintains an active research program with collaborations in materials science and biomedical engineering. Contact: z4liu@ucsd.edu, Jacobs Hall 3207.
