About
Zeynep Döner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). She holds a PhD in Geological Engineering from ITU (2014–2021), an MSc from Ankara University (2009–2012), and a BSc from Hacettepe University (2003–2008). Her academic roles include Geological Engineering Program Coordinator, Erasmus Coordinator, and Member of the Faculty Board of Directors at ITU.
Her research focuses on geochemistry, geodynamics, and magmatic processes, with a specific emphasis on rare earth elements (REEs), carbonatites, and alkaline rocks in Anatolia. Notable contributions include studies on the Kestanbol Magmatic Complex, Gölcük volcanism, and REE enrichments in fly ash placers. She has received the Most Successful Doctoral Thesis Award from ITU (2021).
Her work spans interdisciplinary projects such as determining unconventional hydrocarbon systems in the Western Taurus Belt and investigating petrogenetic properties of alkalipotassic rocks. She leads two BAP-funded projects and collaborates internationally, with publications in journals like Geochemistry, Lithos, and Minerals.
- Research Interests: Geochemistry, Magmatic Processes, REE Distribution, Carbonatite Petrology, Tectonic Evolution.
- Recent Projects: Unconventional hydrocarbon system analysis (2023–2025) and Kestanbol Granitoid Complex studies (2022–2024).
