About
Zenghuo Lin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Saint Louis University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the evolution of genomes and gene regulation in fungal models. Lin holds a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. His lab, the Lin Lab (www.zlinlab.org), develops bioinformatics tools like TSSr for analyzing transcription start site (TSS) data. Key research themes include transcription initiation mechanisms, genome divergence post-hybridization, and functional impacts of 5'UTR length evolution. Notable recent work includes studies on ribosomal subunit modulation in cancer progression, yeast poly(A)-binding proteins, and the genomic origins of cultivated bananas. Lin collaborates widely, with funding from sources like the National Institutes of Health and NSF, and mentors over 30 graduate and undergraduate students. He teaches courses in genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics.
Publications span high-impact journals like Genome Research, Nature Genetics, and Nature Protocols. Awards include recognition for contributions to fungal genomics. Lin advises on genomic projects ranging from Saccharomyces bayanus assembly to desert-adapted Drosophila genetics. His lab actively pursues systems-level approaches to RNA epitranscriptomics and epigenetic regulation, with future directions in synthetic biology applications of transcriptional control mechanisms.
