About
Dr. Ze Zheng is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and an Associate Investigator at the Versiti Blood Research Institute. Her research focuses on the interplay between metabolism and blood clotting mechanisms, particularly hepatocyte-derived fibrinolytic proteins in obesity-associated atherosclerosis and thrombosis. She holds secondary appointments in Physiology at MCW and is a member of the Cardiovascular Research Center.
Educations:
- MBBS in Clinical Medicine, Jiamusi University
- PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics (Wayne State University)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cardiometabolism (Columbia University Medical Center)
Research Interests: Fibrinolysis regulation, circadian rhythm impacts on thrombosis, hepatocyte tPA roles in liver injury, dyslipidemia, and hemophilia. Her lab explores strategies to combat atherosclerosis and bleeding disorders through diagnostic/therapeutic innovations.
Recent Research Trends: Articles emphasize cross-talk between lipoproteins and blood clotting, mechanisms of impaired fibrinolysis in metabolic diseases, and translational studies on fibrinolytic pathways in clinical contexts like COVID-19.
Awards:
- R01 Grant (NHLBI)
- Cullen Scholar Award
- American Heart Association Career Development Award
Advising & Grants: Supervises MSTP students and postdocs. Her funding includes Berrie Foundation, NIH, and AHA grants. Active in professional leadership roles, including co-chairing ISTH’s Fibrinolysis Subcommittee.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Zheng Laboratory at Versiti Blood Research Institute, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on cardiovascular and metabolic disease research.
