Zach Richer is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Research Affiliate at the Global Migration Lab, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto Mississauga. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.
His research focuses on sociocultural dynamics, political sociology, and sociolegal studies, examining how social hierarchies are constructed through urban spatial practices and institutional mechanisms like law. Current projects include ethnographic studies of ethnic community organizations' civic outreach and emotional reasoning in political deliberations.
Teaching emphasizes sociolegal frameworks, including courses on law's role in codifying social norms and its impact on social movements. Active in experiential learning initiatives such as Walls to Bridges prison education programs.
