Zach Layton is an Assistant Professor of Music Production at Ramapo College of New Jersey since 2017, affiliated with the School of Contemporary Arts. His roles include teaching courses such as Music Production Technology, Recording Arts, and Electronic and Computer Music. He holds a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, M.F.A. from Bard College, and additional degrees from NYU and Oberlin Conservatory.
Research interests span electroacoustic composition, spectral music, and visual music, with a focus on interdisciplinary projects blending sound, technology, and performance. Notable works include orchestral pieces like expanded field and installations at venues like EMPAC and the Guggenheim. Layton has received prestigious awards including the MacDowell Fellowship and Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant.
Advising and grants include collaborations with institutions like the Guggenheim and MoMA/PS1. His curatorial work includes founding Darmstadt: Classics of the Avant Garde and curating at ISSUE Project Room.
