Yvonne Hatchett

Yvonne Hatchett is an Assistant Professor of Music at John Jay College, City University of New York. She holds a Master of Arts from Illinois State University (Performance/Voice) and a Bachelor of Music Education from Southern Illinois University. Previously, she served as Artist-In-Residence and Director of Choirs at Florida A&M University, Department Chair at Harlem School of the Arts, and Director of Vocal Arts at Abrons Arts Center.

Research Interests: Her work spans vocal performance and music education, with expertise in opera, art songs, jazz, and spirituals—notably her signature piece "Witness." She emphasizes community engagement through workshops for schools and churches.

Awards:

• Harlem Women of Excellence Award for Achievement in the Arts (2005)

Leadership: Founded the New York Vocal Ensemble (2007) and co-founded the classical-contemporary trio New Renaissance. She has recorded with the Harlem Spiritual Ensemble and appeared in PBS's "The Spiritual" special.
