Yuval Silberman

Yuval Silberman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at Penn State College of Medicine, serving concurrently as Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Research. His work focuses on neurobiological mechanisms underlying alcohol use disorder, neuroimmune interactions, and neuropharmacology.

Research interests include ethanol's effects on brain circuits, norepinephrine modulation, corticotropin-releasing hormone pathways, and the basolateral amygdala's role in addiction. Recent studies investigate cannabidiol's impact on withdrawal symptoms and insulin's potential in treating alcohol dependence.

He leads NIH-funded projects exploring vagal-hypothalamic alcohol modulation (2024-2025), diet-alcohol cross-sensitization (2019-2024), and noradrenergic/CRF circuit interactions (2016-2020). Collaborations involve neuroimmunology (e.g., angiotensin research) and translational medicine through the Center for Cannabis and Natural Product Pharmaceuticals.
