Yusra Suedi is a Lecturer in International Law at the University of Manchester, where she directs the International Law LLM/MA Programmes and co-leads the Manchester International Law Centre. Previously, she held a Fellowship at the London School of Economics and worked internationally with institutions like the UN Office in Geneva, International Law Commission, and the International Court of Justice. Her research focuses on international dispute settlement, human rights, and environmental law, particularly examining public interest dimensions in international adjudication. Active in both academia and practice, she contributes to CILDialogues Blog and serves in governance roles within the European Society of International Law.
Education:
- PhD in Public International Law from University of Geneva (dissertation: The Individual in the Law and Practice of the International Court of Justice)
Her research explores innovative pathways for non-state actors in international courts, judicial approaches to public interest litigation, and climate change litigation frameworks. Recent work analyzes the role of gender-sensitive judging and pedagogical strategies to humanize international law education. She is currently investigating the evolving role of public interest in international dispute mechanisms.
Teaching includes courses on global law-making, international courts and human rights, and research methodologies. She actively supervises PhD candidates in her areas of expertise, which align with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing climate action and justice.
Professional roles include Co-Convenor of the Interest Group on International Courts and Tribunals (ESIL), and Visiting Researcher at King's College London (2023–2024).
