Yuqing Shi

Yuqing Shi is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, Germany, specializing in advanced areas of algebraic topology. Their research focuses on unstable periodic homotopy theory, Koszul duality, chromatic homotopy theory, and Goodwillie calculus. Shi has established academic connections with both the University of Bonn and University of Utrecht, where they have taught courses and supervised student research.

Shi completed their PhD at the Utrecht Geometry Centre of University of Utrecht under the supervision of Gijs Heuts, with doctoral research centered on the periodic homotopy theory of topological spaces. Prior to their doctoral studies, they earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees at University of Bonn, writing their theses with Peter Teichner at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics.

Shi's research explores deep connections between algebraic structures and topological phenomena. Their work on unstable periodic homotopy investigates periodic patterns in homotopy groups of spaces, while their research on Koszul duality examines fundamental relationships between algebraic constructions. The chromatic approach provides a framework for organizing topological complexity, and Goodwillie calculus offers tools for analyzing functors between categories of spaces.

As an academic community builder, Shi has organized multiple specialized seminars including the Reading Seminar on the Unstable Adams Spectral Sequence (2024), the Reading Seminar on Orientations of Ring Spectra (2022), and the Reading Group on Synthetic Spectra (2020-2021). They are also co-organizing the upcoming Workshop on Unstable Homotopy Theory (November 2024) at the Max Planck Institute.

Shi has demonstrated commitment to education through teaching a lecture course on Koszul duality at University of Bonn (Winter Semester 2024/2025), supervising a Bachelor thesis on the Borsuk-Ulam theorem, co-organizing a Master student seminar on algebraic topology, and serving as teaching assistant for various mathematics courses at both University of Utrecht and University of Bonn.
