Yun-Ru Chen is an Associate Professor at the College of Law, National Taiwan University, specializing in East Asian Legal History, Chinese Legal Traditions, Critical Legal Studies, and Family Law. Her research explores the interplay between family law, political economy, and national identity construction in (post-)colonial contexts.

Her work examines transnational legal dynamics through historical litigation records, focusing on colonial Taiwan. She received the Yong K. Kim Prize for her dissertation and has held postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard, SUNY Buffalo, and Waseda University. Currently, she investigates contractual and fluid aspects of family traditions in East Asia.
Recent publications address legal transplants, family law exceptionalism, and sociolegal interactions in East Asian colonial histories. She serves as Secretary-General of the Taiwanese Legal History Association and a guest researcher at Waseda Institute for East Asian Legal Studies.
