About
Dr Yuhang Xu is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Intelligent Healthcare specializing in Healthcare Sensing Technology. His research bridges Biomedical Engineering and Electronic Engineering with a focus on Signal Processing and Clinical Tool Innovation.
Education:
- PhD in Electronic Engineering from King's College London (2013-2017)
- MEng in Circuits and Systems from 2010-2013
- Electronic Engineering degree from 2006-2010
His research interests center on maternal health monitoring and preterm birth prediction through advanced signal processing of electrophysiological data. Key projects include:
- Combining computational and optical mapping approaches to study uterine electrical excitation (EPSRC grant, 2025-2028)
- AI-empowered electrohysterography for preterm birth prediction (NIHR grant, 2021-2022)
- International collaborations with institutions in the UK, Spain, Poland, and China
Scientific Awards:
- NIHR AI in Health and Care Award (2021)
He leads a Maternal Health Research group that addresses health inequalities by improving maternal and neonatal outcomes through non-invasive monitoring technologies. His work also extends to neuroscience applications in movement disorder classification using EEG/EMG coherence analysis.
