Yue Shen

Yue Shen serves as Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds a concurrent appointment at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). His research focuses on observational cosmology, particularly the physics and evolution of quasars and supermassive black holes within the cosmological framework.

Education:

• PhD in Astronomy, Princeton University (2005-2009)

Research Focus: As an extragalactic observer, Dr. Shen investigates large-scale structure traced by quasars, supermassive black hole demography across cosmic time, accretion physics, and black hole-galaxy co-evolution. His methodology combines multi-wavelength survey data with dedicated observing programs, leveraging NCSA's computational resources for data-intensive analysis. Current projects include spectroscopic surveys of the reionization era and high-redshift black hole studies using JWST.

Publication Trends: Recent work demonstrates expertise in spectroscopic survey design, black hole mass estimation techniques, AGN variability modeling, and X-ray source characterization. His publications consistently address fundamental questions about cosmic structure formation and black hole evolution through innovative observational approaches.
