Assistant Professor · Pulmonary hypertension
Binghamton University SUNYAbout
Dr. Yuanjun “Steve” Shen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Binghamton University’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) mechanisms, particularly the role of Vacuolar Protein Sorting 34 (VPS34), and pediatric PAH induced by congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He utilizes organ-in-chip in vitro models and microfluidic technology, trained at the University of Delaware. His work is supported by NIH NHLBI K99/R00 and American Heart Association (AHA) fellowships.
- Affiliations: Binghamton University, prior postdoctoral training at University of Pittsburgh, UC Davis, and University of Delaware.
- Education: BS (China Pharmaceutical University), MS (St. John’s University), PhD (University of Rhode Island).
Research interests span vascular biology, cell signaling, and drug-drug interaction studies. He investigates PAH pathogenesis through pulmonary endothelial and smooth muscle cell interactions, supported by grants including a 2019 internal award for PAH research. Awards include the 2021 ATS Jane Morse Award and 2022 California Thoracic Society recognition.
His NIH-funded K99/R00 award drives current studies on VPS34 regulation in PAH. Training in organ-on-chip models at Delaware enhances his translational research approach. Collaborations span pharmaceutical sciences and biomedical engineering disciplines.
