Yu Yang

Yu Yang is a Project Lecturer at the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS), Kyoto University, Japan. He works in algebraic and arithmetic geometry, with a focus on curves and their moduli spaces in positive characteristic, using fundamental groups to study anabelian phenomena. His research is supported by JSPS KAKENHI grants.

• Education: PhD from RIMS, Kyoto University (2017), supervised by Shinichi Mochizuki.

Research Interests: Yang's work centers on anabelian geometry in positive characteristic, exploring the interplay between topological/combinatorial structures of curves and their fundamental groups. He developed a theory of moduli spaces of fundamental groups to unify anabelian phenomena, inspired by Tamagawa's finiteness theorem. His methods combine algebraic geometry, group theory, and moduli space analysis.

Article Trends: His publications and preprints emphasize moduli spaces of fundamental groups, tame/semi-stable reductions, Hasse-Witt invariants, and combinatorial approaches to anabelian geometry. Collaborations include work with Zhi Hu and Runhong Zong on moduli spaces and topology.

Conferences: Co-organized the Fundamental groups: Geometry and Arithmetic workshop (2019) and multiple Kyoto+ Workshops with international participants.
