Ms Yu-Hui Liao is an Associate Lecturer and Researcher at the School of Modern Languages, University of St Andrews. She joined the institution in 2024 following a PhD in Linguistics and a PgCAP in Academic Practice from the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on language acquisition, the cognitive and linguistic impacts of bilingualism, and their implications for language education. She holds a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and has extensive teaching experience in linguistics, translation, and Chinese across universities in Taiwan, Germany, and the UK.
Her primary research interests include psycholinguistic approaches to second language acquisition, particularly Mandarin, and the role of first-language influence. She is a member of the Global Research Centre for Diverse Intelligences and actively supervises postgraduate taught (PGT) students in applied linguistics.
