About
Dr. Youssef Ben Bouchta is a Research Fellow at the ACRF Image X Institute, University of Sydney, within the Sydney School of Health Sciences. His research focuses on improving targeted radiation therapy techniques, reducing risks of secondary malignancies in pediatric patients, and advancing radiation safety protocols. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia (2019), where his thesis addressed out-of-field radiation dose reduction in pediatric radiotherapy.
- Education: PhD in Medical Physics, University of British Columbia (2019)
His work integrates medical imaging and machine learning, such as developing CT data augmentation methods for tumor segmentation during radiation therapy. Current projects include the AVIATOR initiative (Audio-Visual Investigation Advancing Thoracic Radiotherapy) and the SMaRT project (Surface Monitoring Technology to Remove the Mask). He received the FMH Showcase Travel Award 2023 for research dissemination.
His contributions span radiation oncology, pediatric cancer treatment, and preclinical radiation research. He collaborates on quality assurance programs for small animal irradiation platforms and explores novel imaging techniques to enhance therapy precision.
