Youssef Al Hmada

Dr. Youssef Al Hmada is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). He holds leadership roles including Director of Anatomic Pathology (since 2021) and Dental School Pathology Course Director (since 2018). His academic journey includes a residency at UMMC and a fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He specializes in surgical, bone/soft tissue, and perinatal pathology.

• Education: MD from University of Tishreen (2003), Anatomic/ Clinical Pathology residency at UMMC (2016), Bone/Soft Tissue Pathology fellowship at Harvard (2017).
• Research Interests: Focus on diagnostic challenges in skin, bone/soft tissue, and perinatal pathologies. Active in molecular diagnostics and rare tumor characterization.

He has presented over 20 posters at national/international conferences, including CAP, USCAP, and ASCP meetings. His awards include the 2023 CAP Inspector Excellence Award and the 2014 Solomon Award. Dr. Al Hmada contributes to graduate medical education through residency training and curriculum development.

His clinical service spans diagnostic pathology, autopsy, and consultation. He actively participates in committees such as Residency Program Evaluation and Specimen Management Team.
