Yopie Prins

Yopie Prins is the Irene Butter Collegiate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on classical reception studies, Victorian poetry, historical prosody, and critical translation studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and has taught at institutions like Oberlin College before joining the University of Michigan. Her work bridges interdisciplinary approaches, emphasizing gender studies and the intersection of poetry with music and performance.

Key achievements include her award-winning book *Ladies’ Greek: Victorian Translations of Tragedy* (2017) and *Victorian Sappho* (1999). She has led initiatives such as the Mellon Sawyer Seminar on 'Translation in the Multilingual Midwest' and co-founded *Contexts for Classics*, an interdisciplinary consortium. Prins has also served as Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature and holds numerous fellowships, including a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Her teaching spans Victorian poetry, comparative poetics, and translation studies. She advises projects in the undergraduate Minor in Translation Studies and collaborates across disciplines, including the School of Music, Theater, and Dance.
