Ylva Odenbring is a Professor at the Department of Education and Special Education, University of Gothenburg. Her research focuses on sociology of education and social justice, particularly around gender, sexuality, social class, everyday racism, student welfare, and inclusion/exclusion processes. She leads the NERA Gender and Education network and chairs the Colloquium Gender Perspectives in Education.
Current research includes:
- PI of the project Mental health issues and victimization among LGBTQI-youth (2022-2026), funded by the Swedish Research Council.
- Participating researcher in Racism and Antiracism in Middle School (2025-2028).
Her methodological approach combines critical ethnography and interview studies, with international collaborations across Nordic countries. Recent publications analyze HPV vaccination policies, LGBTQI+ student experiences, and structural inequalities in education.
