About
Ying Huang, PhD, Master of Medicine, MD is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences since 2006. Her education includes a PhD from Ohio State University (2002), Master of Medicine from the Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine (1997), and MD from Beijing Medical University (1994).
Her research focuses on anticancer mechanisms of β-blockers, traditional herbal medicines, and pharmacogenomics of drug transporters. Key projects include repurposing β-blockers for cancer prevention, evaluating TCM efficacy using in vivo carcinogenesis models, and investigating ABCB1/ABCC1/SLC7A11 transporters in chemoresistance. Her work is funded by Hong Kong/Macau governments and private companies.
Publications span 20+ years, emphasizing molecular mechanisms of drug action, chemoprevention strategies, and integrative medicine. Her lab collaborates with Dr. Bradley Andresen on GPCR signaling pathways. Research highlights include carvedilol's skin cancer prevention, Si-Wu-Tang's antioxidant effects, and Tripterygium wilfordii's role in prostate cancer therapy.
Grants include Hong Kong/Macau government funding for TCM research. She advises on inter-professional education initiatives. Her work bridges pharmacology, molecular biology, and traditional medicine to advance cancer therapies.
