Ying-Chun Lo, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, serving as a Consultant in the Division of Anatomic Pathology within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in Rochester, Minnesota. He holds dual appointments across multiple Mayo Clinic committees and research initiatives, focusing on thoracic pathology, molecular diagnostics, and computational pathology.
Dr. Lo received his MD from National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan and a PhD in Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences from The Johns Hopkins University. He completed residency training in Anatomic Pathology at Yale-New Haven Hospital followed by fellowships in Thoracic Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
His primary research focuses on lung cancer using immunology and molecular approaches, including exploration of companion diagnostic biomarkers, molecular characterization and risk stratification of patients. He also investigates molecular mechanisms of solid tumors using next-generation sequencing, RNA expression profiling, and fluorescence in situ hybridization techniques. His work extends to cancer immunotherapy biomarkers, non-neoplastic pulmonary conditions including interstitial lung diseases, and computational pathology applications. Dr. Lo's research integrates novel molecular technologies with traditional morphological pathology to develop better diagnostic tools and identify improved treatment strategies.
Analysis of his recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a strong focus on molecular diagnostics in solid tumors, particularly lung cancer. His work spans multiple disciplines including pulmonary pathology, molecular oncology, computational pathology, and diagnostic innovation. Key themes include biomarker development for immunotherapy response, molecular characterization of rare tumors, and innovative diagnostic approaches using next-generation sequencing technologies.
